The dog days of summer can be brutal in Dallas. That is why it's so important to take the following steps to protect your pup from heat-related illnesses and even death.
Never Leave Your Dog in the Car
While you may be tempted to leave your dog in your car while you run into a store for a quick errand, don't ever do it. According to the American Kennel Club, it only takes 20 minutes for the temperature inside of a car to reach 100 degrees on a 70-degree day. Dogs are especially susceptible to heat stroke because they can only cool down by panting, which is not as effective as sweating for lowering their body temperature.
Limit Walks on Hot Surfaces
On hot days, keep your pet off asphalt, sand, or pavement whenever possible. Your pup's little paws can burn easily, especially since asphalt can be between 40 and 60 degrees hotter than the air temperature in certain circumstances. So, try to make your pup walk on grass or dirt whenever possible.
Bring Water and a Portable Bowl
If you'll be hiking or engaging in any other outdoor activity during the summer, make sure to bring a portable water bowl and water with you. You should also keep a portable water bowl in your car for road trips.
Watch for Signs of Heat Exhaustion
During the summer, it's especially important to watch for signs of heat exhaustion and stroke in dogs, including the following symptoms:
- Excessive panting
- Difficulty urinating
- Rapid heart rate
- Excessive drooling
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Uncoordinated movement
If you believe that your dog is displaying symptoms of heat stroke or exhaustion, your first course of action is to cool your pup down. If possible, place your dog in a bathtub or use a hose to cool it down with water. Then, take your dog to your vet as quickly as possible to get it checked out.

Oranges are often considered to be a winter fruit. But why? All that citrus goodness should be enjoyed year-round, and fortunately, you can purchase them all year long. So, feel free to add oranges to the fruits you like to enjoy in your Edgewater apartment or elsewhere during the spring and summer months. And here, we provide you with different ways you can do so (because eating them isn't the only way they can be used and enjoyed).
Get a Little More Nutrition and Immunity Boost for Longer Days
When it comes to nutrition, it doesn't get much better than oranges. They are loaded with all the nutrients you need for long, active summer days. They are full of fiber, vitamin C, thiamine, folate, and potassium — just the stuff to replenish you.
Freshen Up Your Homemade Summer Drinks
Add oranges to your iced teas, your alcoholic beverages, your slushies, or just about anything else you like to drink during the summer.
Brighten up Your Apartment
Orange is a fun, vibrant, stimulating summer color. It's reminiscent of orange flowers in bloom and the sun at noon. So, while you wait to eat your orange sliced up for a snack in the afternoon, keep several in a pretty bowl in the center of your table. They'll brighten up any room and go with just about any decor.
Make Cleaning Green and Delightful to Your Senses
Green cleaning is the thing now, and vinegar is the fundamental source of all green cleaning. But it doesn't smell pleasant, and during the warm months, the smell is only exacerbated. Lemons are often the thing that people use to hide the smell of the vinegar and to add extra cleaning power. But oranges can be used, too. In fact, eat your orange first and then slice up the peels and place them in a jar with white vinegar. Let the peels sit overnight to infuse. Then, drain the liquid and use the peels in your compost.
Oranges Are for All Seasons
It was said already, but it deserves saying again: Oranges can be purchased year-round, so why not buy a bag? Sure, there are many other fruits you want to enjoy during the summer, but oranges align well with long summer afternoons filled with sunshine.
So go ahead, add some oranges to your summer palate, summer decor and summer cleaning in your apartment in Edgewater, New Jersey. Feel free to contact us to learn more about how to enjoy apartment living — oranges and all — during the summer.

When summer days arrive here in Dallas, time seems to slow down just a bit. Longer days, warmer weather and more relaxed schedules give us an excuse to be on the lookout for something fun to do. Whether you and your friends want to stay inside to escape the heat or bring your gathering outdoors, here are some fun summer party themes that you and your guests will love.
Carnival Party
Whether they're kids or adults, anyone can have fun at the fairgrounds. Serve typical carnival food, such as nachos and corn dogs, and include circus-themed decorations. Go ahead and rent a cotton candy machine, too.
Tropical Party
You don't have to travel all the way to the Amazon or the Caribbean to enjoy a taste of the tropics. With just a few DIY ideas, you can transform your spacious apartment home into a rainforest adventure or resort island getaway. Decorate the table with aquatic colors and seashell and starfish patterns. Use hollowed-out pineapple rinds filled with flowers or palm fronds as creative centerpieces. Treat your guests to coconut sorbet or a tropical fruit drink.
Floor Party
No need to worry about having enough chairs for everybody if you choose this theme. Arrange place settings on low coffee tables or a tablecloth spread out on the floor. Guests can relax on pillows or blankets. Just think of it as an indoor picnic.
'70s Party
This retro-themed party style harkens back to the days of disco and polyester pants. Deck out your home with bright colors and bold patterns. Play music from that era, and invite your guests to dress in '70s-style outfits.
Fiesta Party
This summertime favorite is always a crowd-pleaser. Decorate your home or outdoor space with brightly colored banners, flowers and flamingos. Of course, the menu should include Mexican food and beverages. Don't forget to have some mariachi music playing in the background. If you're feeling brave, you may even want to invite guests to break a pinata.
