Fun Summer Party Themes

When summer days arrive here in Dallas, time seems to slow down just a bit. Longer days, warmer weather and more relaxed schedules give us an excuse to be on the lookout for something fun to do. Whether you and your friends want to stay inside to escape the heat or bring your gathering outdoors, here are some fun summer party themes that you and your guests will love.

Carnival Party

Whether they're kids or adults, anyone can have fun at the fairgrounds. Serve typical carnival food, such as nachos and corn dogs, and include circus-themed decorations. Go ahead and rent a cotton candy machine, too.  

Tropical Party

You don't have to travel all the way to the Amazon or the Caribbean to enjoy a taste of the tropics. With just a few DIY ideas, you can transform your spacious apartment home into a rainforest adventure or resort island getaway. Decorate the table with aquatic colors and seashell and starfish patterns. Use hollowed-out pineapple rinds filled with flowers or palm fronds as creative centerpieces. Treat your guests to coconut sorbet or a tropical fruit drink.

Floor Party

No need to worry about having enough chairs for everybody if you choose this theme. Arrange place settings on low coffee tables or a tablecloth spread out on the floor. Guests can relax on pillows or blankets. Just think of it as an indoor picnic. 

'70s Party

This retro-themed party style harkens back to the days of disco and polyester pants. Deck out your home with bright colors and bold patterns. Play music from that era, and invite your guests to dress in '70s-style outfits.

Fiesta Party

This summertime favorite is always a crowd-pleaser. Decorate your home or outdoor space with brightly colored banners, flowers and flamingos. Of course, the menu should include Mexican food and beverages. Don't forget to have some mariachi music playing in the background. If you're feeling brave, you may even want to invite guests to break a pinata.
