When living in an apartment, throwing a good party isn’t always easy. In this post, we’ll discuss a few tips on how to throw the best party in your apartment.
Think About Seating
No matter who’s hosting a party, it’s usually hard to find enough seating options. However, given that most of your guests probably won’t be sitting for a long period of time, remember that you don’t need too many seats. If you don’t have enough chairs for your guests, then you’ll have to get creative. Pillows, blankets, buckets, stools — anything works if you can sit on it. Not only does this help to provide more seating resources, but your guests might also get a laugh out of your ingenuity.
Snacks Are Key
While seating is important for parties, food might be the most important factor to consider. Having a main meal is sometimes needed, but you should always have a variety of common snack items. Cheese platters, veggie trays and fruit are all outstanding choices when planning your party — and be sure to have enough. Nothing is worse than running out of snacks 10 minutes into the party.
Utilize Pitchers
While some guests will bring their own beverages, it’s a good idea to have drink options on your menu. But in an effort to reduce waste and do better for the earth, try using large pitchers and reusable cups. Not only will this help during the cleanup time, but it is also better for the planet! So be sure to use multiple pitchers with a variety of beverages, or you might even try to make alcoholic juice and put it in a cooler for everyone to grab. Having a keg is another tactic that works great.
Lots of Paper Towels
Whether there are kids at the party or not, spills happen. In addition, people usually want napkins when they eat. Therefore, be sure to have plenty of paper towels at a centralized location. People don’t want to be scrambling around when they’ve spilled something, so be sure that these paper towels are easily accessible.
Bust Out the Games
Nothing brings a party together more than games. Try downloading virtual games on your smartphone that allow you to play with many people. You might also try to bring out a few board games as a classic treat.

Residents of Dallas apartments may find rainy days a challenge for their entertainment plans. The rain limits your options for entertainment, and it may even prevent you from leaving your home. By having a few ideas in mind for entertainment on a rainy day, you will enjoy your time alone or with friends.
Relax With a Bubble Bath
If you're planning to spend your rainy day at home without company, then a great way to enjoy the day is with a relaxing bubble bath. You can make your own bubble bath by combining 1/2 cup of your favorite liquid body soap with 1 tablespoon of honey and one egg white. Put the mixture in the tub as you draw your bath and allow it to bubble up. You'll notice that the honey helps retain moisture in your skin, while the egg white makes your bath last by keeping your bubbles longer. Get in the tub and enjoy a relaxing bath to melt away stress and wait for the rain to pass.
Watch a Movie at Home
Set up your entertainment system and put on a favorite movie. If you're not sure about the best movie for the weather, then consider a classic or opt for a mystery. The weather is ideal for a little mystery or for something with a touch of nostalgia. You can watch a movie alone, or you can enjoy a movie with friends. Make it interesting and add a few snacks to complete your home entertainment.
Tell a Story
A rainy day when you plan to have guests may impact your plans. It may prevent you from enjoying an outdoor excursion or activities you previously planned. It does not mean you cannot enjoy your time with your guests. Make a fun game by telling stories as a group. Start by picking a theme, such as fairy tales or horror stories. You then begin the story with the traditional "once upon a time" beginning. Each person adds one word to the story as you go around in a circle. You will be surprised by the outcome of your story as you create something together.
Read a Good Book
Spending time at home with a good book is an option for rainy day entertainment. Pick out a book that suits the weather and your personal interests. Keep it aside until you have a rainy day that allows you to stay home. Pick it up and start reading it while taking your relaxing bubble bath or after you get out of the bath.
Rain does not need to prevent you from enjoying your day. You can focus on indoor activities and entertainment that allow you to relax, spend time with loved ones, or take a day to spend alone. The Oscars are almost upon us yet again, which can only mean one thing: People are already planning Oscar parties across the country. But if you truly want to take things to the next level and host the best Oscar party ever in your own apartment with your closest friends, there are a few key things you'll want to keep in mind.
The Oscars, Your Party and You
Generally speaking, the Oscars are a lot more fun if you and your friends have actually seen a lot of the movies presented — meaning that your preparation for your party is going to need to start early. This is one of the reasons why Oscar ratings are always higher during years where the "Best Picture" nominees are incredibly popular. More people have seen them and, because of that, they take a more vested interest in who wins.
Consider having people come over to your home around noon so that you can watch at least one, but possibly two, of the "Best Picture" nominees. Make it an all-day affair. Try to pick the ones that are nominated for the most categories, just so that research can bleed into the entire show.
Then, right around 5:00 P.M., you can let the actual party unfold. Make drinks and serve foods that, if possible, coincide with the general theme of the night. If you wanted to tie in with the Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," for example, you would naturally want to serve something like a crush that you could make purple because that color is so prominent in the film.
You could even make everyone fill out a list of their predictions for each category and play drinking games all night long. Every time someone guesses a winner correctly, everyone else in the room has to take a shot. With rules like these, your friends will definitely be clamoring for you to host a similar event next year.
If you'd like to find out more information about how to host the best Oscar party ever in your apartment, or if you're just excited to learn about all of the incredible apartments in Dallas, TX that are available, please don't hesitate to pick up the phone and call South Side Flats today.

When summer days arrive here in Dallas, time seems to slow down just a bit. Longer days, warmer weather and more relaxed schedules give us an excuse to be on the lookout for something fun to do. Whether you and your friends want to stay inside to escape the heat or bring your gathering outdoors, here are some fun summer party themes that you and your guests will love.
Carnival Party
Whether they're kids or adults, anyone can have fun at the fairgrounds. Serve typical carnival food, such as nachos and corn dogs, and include circus-themed decorations. Go ahead and rent a cotton candy machine, too.
Tropical Party
You don't have to travel all the way to the Amazon or the Caribbean to enjoy a taste of the tropics. With just a few DIY ideas, you can transform your spacious apartment home into a rainforest adventure or resort island getaway. Decorate the table with aquatic colors and seashell and starfish patterns. Use hollowed-out pineapple rinds filled with flowers or palm fronds as creative centerpieces. Treat your guests to coconut sorbet or a tropical fruit drink.
Floor Party
No need to worry about having enough chairs for everybody if you choose this theme. Arrange place settings on low coffee tables or a tablecloth spread out on the floor. Guests can relax on pillows or blankets. Just think of it as an indoor picnic.
'70s Party
This retro-themed party style harkens back to the days of disco and polyester pants. Deck out your home with bright colors and bold patterns. Play music from that era, and invite your guests to dress in '70s-style outfits.
Fiesta Party
This summertime favorite is always a crowd-pleaser. Decorate your home or outdoor space with brightly colored banners, flowers and flamingos. Of course, the menu should include Mexican food and beverages. Don't forget to have some mariachi music playing in the background. If you're feeling brave, you may even want to invite guests to break a pinata.

Game night is great fun for everyone, especially if you have the right snacks on hand. But who wants to be tied to the kitchen while the action is happening? These crowd-friendly recipes are easy to prepare and will have everyone convinced you were cooking over the stove all day.
Mini Meatball Subs
For this recipe, you’ll need a Crock-Pot. If it isn’t your favorite kitchen appliance, this recipe is one of the reasons it soon will be.
Ingredients:
- 1 family-sized bag of meatballs
- 2 jars of your favorite brand of spaghetti sauce
- 2 packages of mini sub rolls (or more depending on the size of your crowd)
- 2 packages of sliced provolone cheese
Dump the meatballs and spaghetti sauce in the Crock-Pot about four hours before guests arrive and have delicious sandwiches ready to serve by halftime, intermission, etc.
If your crowd is larger, you may want to make two servings, but you’ll need two Crock-Pots for that tall task.
Honey BBQ Popcorn Chicken
Easy and delicious. Who could ask for more? For this recipe, you’ll need a large bag of frozen popcorn chicken, (or two), and your favorite honey BBQ sauce. Heat the chicken according to package directions. Warm BBQ sauce in a medium saucepan. Coat the chicken in the BBQ sauce and serve!
Chicken Taco Dip
This is another great crowd-pleaser that’s easy to prepare. This one requires a little more effort and work than the others, but is worth every second.
Ingredients:
- 1 brick of cream cheese
- 1 packet of taco seasoning
- 1 can of cream of chicken soup
- 1 can of shredded chicken breast (drained)
- 1 bag of shredded cheddar jack cheese (reserve half for topping)
- 1 bag of Tostitos or Fritos Scoops
Soften cream cheese in a medium-size mixing bowl. You want it soft enough that it’s easy to stir. Add all other ingredients (except the half bag of cheddar jack cheese you reserved). Stir well, then microwave for about two minutes. Stir well again and see if you need to microwave another minute or two. Pour into serving bowl, top with remaining cheese and serve with your Scoops.
These delicious snacks are sure to please your hungry crowd on game night without making you stuck in the kitchen. Enjoy!

Hosting a dinner party at your Dallas apartment can be an exciting event both for you and your invited guests. Even with the excitement surrounding it, you still may find yourself anxious to put together the perfect event that both you and your guests will remember for years to come. To host the perfect dinner party, make sure to follow the three tips listed below.
Choose the Perfect Menu
Planning the menu for your dinner party should be the first and most important task you perform. While coming up with the most delectable items may be at the top of the list, there are other issues you will need to consider to make sure all of your guests will have something they enjoy on the menu.
- Do any of your guests have food allergies or dietary restrictions?
- Will you be serving the meal at a table or buffet style?
- Will your meal follow a set schedule or will guests be coming and going?
- How much space will you have to serve the food?
Carefully Choose Your Theme
Themed dinner parties can be the perfect way to express your personality and help make your event more memorable. When deciding on a theme, make sure that it is specific enough that your guests will see it throughout your decor, food, and dress, but broad enough that it does not limit what you can do. If choosing a theme that requires a certain dress, make sure to specify it on the invitation so that your guests will have time to choose the appropriate attire.
Create an Inviting Table
No matter if you are hosting a formal sit-down dinner or a buffet-style spread, the centerpiece of your event should be your table since dinner is the primary focus of the party. Break out your most formal dinnerware and include all of the appropriate setting pieces for utensils and plates based on the courses that will be served.
If you are looking for a new apartment to be the setting of your perfect dinner party, visit Southside Flats today to find the best floor plan. Our architecturally significant, modern homes are in the artsy, culturally diverse, historic Cedars neighborhood. Contact us for more information!
