Do you love Christmas lights and wish you could light up your apartment like some of the houses you see on TV? Your balcony gives you a great canvas to put on a display. Here are a few of the most common ideas.

Icicle Lights

Icicle lights are the simplest way to light up your balcony. Just get a string that matches the length of your balcony railing and run it along the top. Most people prefer white icicle lights since you're trying to make it look like hanging ice, but you can also choose from festive colors if that's your preference

Wrap the Railings

Instead of hanging lights from the top of your balcony railing, you may wish to make your railings themselves the focal point. Instead of fading into darkness at night, they become the display.

Simply wrap string lights around your railings. You can either just do the main beams or every single beam depending on how many lights you want. Remember that since you'll be wrapping the lights rather than running them straight, you'll probably need two to three times the length of lights that you would to go straight across the length of your balcony.

Net Lights

Net lights are mostly to cover bushes, but you can still put them to work on your balcony. Match them to the size of your railing, and use them like a screen. This gives you a simple way to cover your entire railing without having to arrange multiple strings of lights.

Use Pathway Lights

Stores almost always sell candy canes, small Christmas trees, and other festive decorations that stake into the ground next to a sidewalk. You can tie these to your balcony railing to create a more festive look beyond just simple string lights.

Don't Forget a Timer

With short winter days, you may be coming home after dark, and your neighbors might appreciate if you don't leave your lights on till 4 a.m. Get a solar sensor or clock-based timer to automatically adjust your lights.

Is Thanksgiving at your place this year? You’ll probably be spending most of your time shopping, prepping, and cooking (and maybe just a little bit of cleaning). But you should also think about decorating too!

Make this wonderful American holiday even more special with these fun decoration ideas your guests will love!

1. Bring the outdoors in

If you live in an area where there are leaves-a-plenty, this is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to decorate for Thanksgiving. Whether you choose just a few crispy brown, orange, and yellow leaves to accent your centerpiece or scatter them around your crudités and appetizers table, they’re sure to brighten the mood with some fresh fall spirit.

2. Put up a “Thankful” board

Whether it’s a chalkboard, whiteboard, or poster board, decorate the edges of a large surface where your guests can write things that they’re thankful for. Write “I’m thankful for…” at the top, and leave out the appropriate writing utensils.

3. Decorate with pumpkins, squash, and gourds

The great thing about these decorations is that they last a long time. Purchase them before Halloween, and you’ll still have them around to use at your Thanksgiving table! A large pumpkin with several smaller gourds or squash surrounding it always makes a great centerpiece. Add some leaves, branches, or ribbon for some extra flair!

4. Make corn-husk wrapped candle holders

Lastly, get your craft on with a quick and easy project involving dried corn husks, some ribbon, and a few basic candle holders (just make sure they’re a basic cylindrical shape). Simply wrap the cornhusks uniformly around the candle holders, taking care to trim the excess off the top and away from the candle flame.

Affix the cornhusk pieces to the sides of the candle holders with glue if you don’t care about the glue possibly leaving a mark — or use some festival Thanksgiving-themed ribbon! White candles work best for this project, but you could use orange, deep red, or brown as well.
