Nothing beats the fun and excitement of a themed party. To really transport your guests into another era, you'll want to make sure you get the food and drinks right. Here are some signature offerings from the 20s, 50s, and 70s to get the party off on the right foot:

The 20s:

One of the most popular dishes of the Roaring 20s was oysters. This flavorful seafood can be prepared many ways, but the 20s classic was Oysters Rockefeller. Another popular appetizer from this decade was deviled eggs. For an authentic twist, serve them with a ketchup and cider vinegar dipping sauce. For dessert, rice pudding and jello were exotic delights from that era.

In the 20s, people responded to Prohibition by sipping (from discreet coffee mugs) drinks like Gin Rickeys, Gimlets, Mint Juleps and Sidecars.

The 50s:

No 50s dinner party is complete without something submerged in jello. However, modern palates don't appreciate authentic creations like a whole chicken encased in gelatin. Instead, try something like pineapple rings and cherries in strawberry jello, topped with whipped cream. For a savory dish, break out the canned Spam. It can be slivered and barbecued or fried to change the texture.

Cocktails in the 50s incorporated tropical flair including Pina Coladas, Strawberry Daiquiris or, for a change of pace, Singapore Slings.

The 70s:

You've got the groovy music and tie-dyed bell bottoms. Now you need the food. The 70s was in love with cheese, so why not try your hand at fondue? You don't need a special cooker for this. Just combine cheese and a hop-heavy beer in a saucepan and serve hot. For dessert, think about that 70s classic, a combination of cream, marshmallows and citrus fruits: Ambrosia Salad.

The experimental 70s led to strange drink creations like the Merry Widow (absinthe, beer, gin and more), and the super-sweet Grasshopper (inspired by Grasshopper Pies).
