For your next party, be it an evening get-together or brunch, you can have a cooler full of beer and a countertop with a few liquors and mixers, and that’s OK. But to really break the ice and get guests to start mixing (in more ways than one), why not lay out a Bloody Mary bar with all the fixings? Even your non-drinking guests can build creative beverages. Here’s how it’s done:

Prepare the Base

Set out pitchers with tomato or V8 juice. Put little or no seasoning in this; your visitors will spice up their own. Perhaps have one pitcher with Clamato. For a special touch, freeze some tomato juice ice cubes.

Set Out the Booze

Plain vodka is fine, but how about flavored for those who want it? Cucumber, pepper and dill are good choices. For a kicky variation, offer tequila.

Sauces and Spices

Almost everyone uses salt, pepper, Tabasco and Worcestershire, but why stop there? Set up a caddy or carousel with all the choices: sriracha, barbecue sauce, teriyaki, salsa, cayenne, horseradish, wasabi, smoked paprika, celery salt, curry powder, caraway, cumin and anything else that strikes your fancy. Each of these will tempt at least one of your visitors. Don’t forget lemon and lime slices, garlic cloves and chunks of ginger.

To Pickle or Not To Pickle: The Vegetables

In addition to dill and sweet cucumber pickles, offer cocktail onions and pickled garlic and jalapenos, as well as pickled okra, asparagus, and green beans. Multiple olive selections are always appreciated. Unpickled choices include celery, carrots, and cherry tomatoes. Set small plates near the vegetables (along with snacks such as mixed nuts and pretzels) so folks will feel free to take veggies even if they don’t put them in their drinks.

Meats and Cheeses

Cube hard cheeses and cut meats and sausages into chunks. Provide bamboo skewers so guests can build their own “loaded swizzle sticks.” Offer jerky, bacon, and shrimp.

How about a competition for the tastiest Bloody or most original skewer? And in the competition for top Dallas, Texas, apartments, it’s hard to beat South Side Flats. Check the website or call 833-280-0099 to discover how exciting living next door to downtown Dallas can be.

Color is a powerful force. How you respond to different colors is subjective, based in part on your own experiences and culture. Still, surrounding yourself with the shades that bring out the best in you (and your mood) is one of the most effective ways to create a home of your own.

Colors should be deliberate and carefully chosen to make you feel your best when relaxing at home. Those white or ivory walls that drive some people crazy when they search for Dallas apartments? They’re the perfect backdrop for the colors you bring in. In fact, both white and ivory are considered "calming" shades.

Psychology of Color Through the Ages

Ancient Egyptian and Chinese cultures (among others) thought that color could be used to heal people. The practice was called chromotherapy. Chromotherapy practitioners believed that exposing a sick person to particular colors could help heal what ailed them. For example:

  • Blue was used to soothe patients and alleviate pain.
  • Orange was used to heal the lungs and increase energy.
  • Yellow was used to purify the body and help stimulate the nerves.
  • Indigo was believed to heal skin issues.
  • Red was used to increase circulation while stimulating the mind and body.

If you’ve ever noticed how frequently hospitals and other health care facilities are covered in light shades of green and blue, you will see that color is still believed to play a role in healing — or at very least, in staying calm.

The idea is to choose a color or two that address how you want your apartment to “feel” and work around those hues. If you’re looking for calming shades that will help melt the stress away, look no further than blue, violet, indigo, pink, green, gray, tan or white.

Want more stimulating colors that will work perfectly in a study, dining area or workout space? Try shades of red, orange or yellow — all three are suspected of getting the juices flowing mentally and physically.

Adding the colors of your choice to your apartment is easy. Simply chose a palette and introduce it through artwork, furniture, pillows, area rugs, lampshades and other household furnishings.

The classic design of South Side Flats apartments makes them the perfect setting for any atmosphere you're hoping to create. Contact us if you would like more information.

Whether you’re new to the area or not, sometimes, it is just nice to meet new people and make new friends. However, what was once such a simple thing as a child is a bit harder for us as adults. That’s why it is sometimes important to think outside the box a bit. We’ve come up with a few ideas to help you meet new people in your area.

Three Ideas for Meeting New People Near You

  • Join an Activity – One of the best ways to meet people is to join an organized activity. What do you love? Join a yoga class or meet for hikes at a local park. Perhaps you’re not the active type; that’s okay! Take a class on history or painting or join a bowling or billiards team. The opportunities are endless. The idea is that you’ll be enjoying something you love anyway, and naturally, you’ll meet others who have the same interest. It is a no-pressure way to meet people.

  • Try an App – Not all social apps are for dating or hooking up; some are a bit more innocuous. Meetup and Nextdoor are both free apps that do not have romantic connotations and can be a great way to meet your neighbors for a cup of coffee or a night out for drinks. Peanut is designed for mothers, so it may be a good choice for moms looking to put together a playgroup or mom’s morning out. Don’t be scared; just be smart, and you can often meet others using the power of technology.

  • Look for Opportunities Around You – Sometimes, the easiest way to meet new people is to simply look for opportunities around you. Do you see that same person walking their dog each morning when you’re walking yours? Say hello! Bring doughnuts to the group sitting outside the building on Saturday morning or chat up the friendly neighbor who has the awesome container garden. You’ll find that meeting new people is easy if you just keep your eyes open and aren’t afraid to take a few chances.
